About this subject
Students will be challenged with questions about belief, values, meaning, purpose and truth, enabling them to develop their own attitudes towards religious issues. Students will also gain on appreciation of how religion, philosophy and ethics form the basis of our culture. They will develop analytical and critical thinking skills, the ability to work with abstract ideas, leadership and research skills. All these skills will help them prepare for further studying.
The course is comprised of two components, each worth 50% of the overall grade. Component 1:
Pupils will study two religions, each worth 50% of the overall grade for Component 1
· Christianity (beliefs, teachings and practices)
· Islam (beliefs, teachings and practices) Component 2:
Pupils will study four of the following thematic studies, each of which are worth 25% of the overall mark for Component 2
· Relationships & Families
· Religion & Life
· Existence of God & Revelation
· Religion, human rights and social justice
There are two exams, one for each component. Each exam is 1 hour 45 minutes in length. Component 1: 50% of overall grade on 14th May 2018
Component 2: 50% of overall grade on 16th May 2018
There are two text books that will be used for teaching the content of this course. Pupils will be issued with copies of both these books.
